Contacting
a company like United Airlines might seem simple enough, but sometimes that
depends on what you need. While many transactions and questions can be handled
by a phone call or an e-mail, at times a traveler needs to contact an airline
to pick up personal property or secure original documents. Unusual
circumstances require something more than just an 800 number.
TEP 1
Call (800) 589-5582 in the United States or the number of
your local United Airlines national office if you are abroad. Note that the
number for Canada is (800) 538-2929, and United Airlines maintains special 800
numbers in the United States for customers who prefer to speak Spanish, an
Asian language or have hearing impairments. Navigate the automated telephone
menu by entering numbers or answering simple questions vocally until you arrive
at the correct department, either receiving an automated answer or getting a
customer support clerk.
STEP 2
E-mail United Airlines. This is a logical choice if you do
not need an immediate answer to an inquiry and do not want to wait on the
phone. United Airlines does not publish e-mail addresses for customer service.
Instead, those who wish to contact the company by e-mail must visit the
Customer Service section of its website, select the correct subject from a
pull-down menu ("Baggage Services," "Mileage Plus") and
fill out the relevant e-mail form.
STEP 3
Call the local ticketing or baggage office at the airport
or in your city, if there is one. For most issues, the local office of United
Airlines will refer you to its main call center, but you may be able to collect
information about the status of your specific flight, whether your lost bags
have turned up and other narrowly local issues through the airport ticketing or
baggage office. Choosing this route also sidesteps potentially long waits on
with the call center.
STEP 4
Visit the airport or city-based office in person. This
might not be as inconvenient as it sounds, since United Airlines maintains
city-based offices in many of the major cities it services. United Airlines has
an office in downtown Washington, D.C. at 1025 Connecticut Ave. NW, for
example, in addition to its airport-based offices. If you can walk or easily
drive to such an office, it may be more convenient and quicker than any other
option.
